Plans by the Conservative Mayor of London will see police resources in Old Bexley & Sidcup slashed.

The Mayor's proposals will lead to a reduction in police officers across London of 455 police officers by 2012, and possibly even more.

This year the Mayor is proposing to cut the Metropolitan Police's budget by £16.4 million and to cut the amount of money given to borough police forces by 5%.

Old Bexley & Sidcup Liberal Democrat campaigner Duncan Borrowman says:

"Liberal Democrats are totally opposed to Boris Johnson's savage cut of £16.4 million in funding for the police.

"We need to cut out police waste and perks, so allowing extra spending on the key priorities of tackling and knife and gun crime as well as child trafficking."
