Bexley Liberal Democrats have joined the "Axe the Tax" campaign - calling for the abolition of unfair Council Tax and its replacement with a fairer system of local taxation based on ability to pay. More information on the campaign can be found at www.axethetax.org.uk

Bexley's Liberal Democrat Greater London Assembly candidate Duncan Borrowman said "Since Labour came to power the poorest have been paying more and more of their income on Council tax"

"Last year they paid 4.8% of their income in Council Tax or almost £500. When Tony Blair came to power it was £257. We need a system of local tax which is based on ability to pay"

Bexley Lib Dem Councillor Nick O'Hare added "The Council Tax is the un-fairest tax in Britain, hitting the poor and vulnerable it is time to Scrap the Council Tax."
