Plans by Labour countrolled Bexley Council to steam roller through the closure of the existing Blackfen Library behind the Oval in Cedar Avenue and to replace it with a new library in busy Blackfen Road have been condemned by Blackfen & Lamorbey Liberal Democrats.
Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Paul Hurren said; "The site proposed by Bexley Council is totally unsuitable, it is on a busy road that will make it difficult for many young, old and disabled residents to visit it. The present location is well placed to serve the whole community, with easy access. When the archives are moved from the upper floor of the present site extensive public space will be made available. Yet again Bexley Council are failing to listen to local residents."
The local Liberal Democrat team will continue the fight to keep the present library open.
Bexley Labour councillors pressed ahead with the plans at a council meeting on 5th November - despite a massive turnout of people opposed to the plans.
